Shirley Moorse has organised a visit to the Tees Barrage in memory of John. During his latter years with ICI John was responsible, among other things, for control of pollution. Over those years to his delight, the River Tees came back to life and air pollution improved dramatically. To celebrate this we will take a look at the control room and the purpose of the Tees Barrage, a truly amazing engineering achievement. After a lunch break at the Talpore Bar we will be given an introduction to Portrack March Nature Reserve by Christine Corbett from River Tees Rediscovered.
Meet for a 10.30am start at the south tower of the Barrage, Navigation Way, Thornaby TS17 6QA or alternatively park at Talpore, walk past white-water course and fish ladder to south side. This promises to be a truly informative and enjoyable event. All members and their friends are welcome.
